Republicans, Heading For Big Gains, Ready Agenda
The Associated Press reports: “Republican leaders, ever more confident of their chances of winning control of the House and possibly even the Senate, have begun plotting a 2011 agenda topped by a push for more than $100 billion in spending cuts, tax reductions and attempts to undo key parts of President Barack Obama’s health care and financial regulation laws. The question is how much of the GOP’s government-shrinking, tax-cutting agenda to advance, and how fast.”
Obama’s Day Ahead
President Obama will receive the presidential daily briefing at 9:30 a.m. ET. He will meet at 2:40 p.m. ET with some of the Americans involved in the Chilean mine rescue effort, and deliver remarks to the press at 2:50 p.m. ET. He will receive the economic daily briefing at 3:15 p.m. ET.
Biden’s Day Ahead
At 11:15 a.m. ET, Vice President Biden will chair a regular meeting of senior officials to assess progress in Iraq. He will meet in the afternoon with senior advisers. At 5 p.m. ET, he will attend an event in Bethesda, Maryland, for Rep. Frank Kratovil (D-MD).
Tea Party Antics Could End Up Burning Republicans
The Washington Post reports: “The tea party’s volatile influence on this election year appears to be doing more harm than good for Republicans’ chances in some of the closest races in the nation, in which little-known candidates who upset the establishment with primary wins are now stumbling in the campaign’s final days…Such moments are giving Democrats hope that the few undecided voters who remain may become turned off and move away from Republicans in the closer races nationwide, including those in Colorado, Nevada and Kentucky.”
Parties Look For Wave Surprises
CQ reports: “The National Republican Congressional Committee and conservative third-party groups such as American Crossroads are working feverishly to capitalize on the new opportunities of a rapidly expanding playing field ahead of what is expected to be a good night for the GOP on Tuesday. As one GOP strategist put it Wednesday, “the more ships we have on the water when the wind is blowing our way, the more that are going to come ashore.”
Senate Democrats Get Creative to Help Harry
Roll Call reports: “Senate Democrats have been pursuing all fundraising avenues to help save Majority Leader Harry Reid’s job, with nearly every Member of his caucus giving generously to his imperiled re-election campaign, the Nevada Democratic Party and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. Reid’s biggest backers include two of the Conference’s most powerful and ambitious Senators: Democratic Conference Vice Chairman Charles Schumer (N.Y.) and Finance Chairman Max Baucus (Mont.), both of whom have used their ample campaign coffers to aid the Nevada state party’s get-out-the-vote effort.”
