The new Rasmussen poll of the Nevada Senate race suggests that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D) could be starting to close the gap against his Republican opponent, former state Rep. Sharron Angle, who has been coming under increased public scrutiny for her hardline conservative positions.

The numbers: Angle 46%, Reid 43%. The survey of likely voters has a ±4% margin of error. In the previous Rasmussen poll from three weeks ago, Angle led by 48%-41%. The TPM Poll Average gives Angle a lead of 45.9%-41.7%.

From the pollster’s analysis: “This is Reid’s best showing all year and follows a visit by President Obama to the state to help his campaign. Reid has also been trying to raise doubts about Angle and a solid plurality of voters now have negative perceptions of both candidates.”
