Keith Olbermann on Tuesday opened up on the Late Show, explaining his turbulent departure from Current TV.

“I screwed up really big on this,” Olbermann told David Letterman. “It’s my fault that it didn’t succeed, in the sense that I didn’t think the whole thing through.”

After asking about Olbermann’s tenure at Current TV, Letterman presented the progressive pundit with an adjustable business card featuring his past employers: CNN, ESPN, MSNBC and Current. “That’s brilliant,” Olbermann said.

Olbermann described the situation at Current by comparing himself to a $10 million chandelier. Olbermann’s contract was reportedly $50 million for five years. But, he said, a $10 million chandelier doesn’t do a lot of good if you don’t have a house to put it in.

“So you’re the chandelier?” Letterman asked Olbermann. What about the car service and technical issues, Letterman pressed on. Olbermann went through eight different car services — the last company was reportedly “Diva.” He allegedly complained about the drivers. But Olbermann told Letterman that eventually some of the drivers stopped picking him up because the bills hadn’t been paid.

And on the technical issues in his studio, Olbermann said: “The chandelier was never installed properly.”
