A new Marist poll of likely voters shows Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand leading Republican Joe DioGuardi 54%-42% in the New York senate race.

The previous Marist poll — from all the way back in early May — gave Gillibrand a 50%-30% lead.

The new poll is good news for the previously-thought-to-be-unstoppable Gillibrand, who last week saw a Quinnipiac poll that only gave her a six-point lead, and a particularly surprising SurveyUSA poll that only put her ahead by one point.

Both the Q poll and the SurveyUSA poll were conducted among likely voters, who in this election year are more likely to lean Republican. Other polls from last week, like one Siena poll that gave Gillibrand a 26-point lead, was conducted among registered voters.

The TPM Poll Average puts Gillibrand ahead 50.3%-37.3%.
