Republican Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) told C-SPAN that there is a chance the Donald Trump is a flawed messenger.

“The message that we have is pretty good,” Cassidy said according to the interview flagged by BuzzFeed. “It may turn out that Mr. Trump is not the messenger. Maybe he is…But it really seems to boil down to Mr. Trump’s personality being not what people like, as opposed to some of the issues.”

It was a strange admission from a sitting Republican senator from a conservative state just two months ahead of the presidential election.

Cassidy went on to say that the Republican Party was prepared to work with Clinton if that is what it came to.

“There will be common ground… Ryan is a great American. He is going to work with whomever he needs to work [with] to make something happen,” Cassidy said in the interview according to BuzzFeed.
