Impeccable timing: The Russ Feingold campaign will today begin airing the below ad touting his support from veterans.

Why’s the timing impeccable?

Because just yesterday, his Republican opponent, Ron Johnson got tripped up when asked to describe his view of the government’s role in helping homeless veterans.

In so doing, Johnson let slip his view that these policy specifics don’t really matter at this point. “I will point out: I don’t believe this election really is about details,” he said. “It just isn’t. I mean as I’ve gone through the state of Wisconsin I’ve viewed this pretty much as a job interview…. I’ll have to get there. I’ll have to start performing the job.”

We’re told that the timing of this ad is coincidental. But expect Democrats to pounce all over that remark, and to link it to an earlier incident, when Johnson was unable to articulate a plan to help middle class Americans.
