Tamyra d’Ippolito is getting some help she didn’t ask for.

A cafe owner who’s seeking the Democratic nomination to the Senate seat currently held by Evan Bayh, d’Ippolito can’t quite seem to figure out whether she has enough signatures to get on the primary ballot and all but assure herself the Democratic nomination.

But what does seem certain is some conservatives are encouraging their followers to help round up signatures for a candidate they seem to view as not quite ready for prime time.

RedState’s Erick Erickson wrote yesterday that “those of you in Indiana should go out of your way to help Tamyra get the signatures she needs by tomorrow at noon.”

“This could be fun,” he wrote.

At Race 4 2012, Adam Brickley, who began encouraging Republicans to draft Sarah Palin as their vice presidential nominee early in 2007, is now encouraging his readers to help d’Ippolito round up signatures.

If you live in Indiana – I would encourage you to download the petition from Tamyra’s website, get everyone you know to sign it this morning, and drop it off with you’re local election registrar by the noon deadline. You’ll have help from both genuine D’Ippolito supporters and from Erick Erickson’s RedState shock troops – who are under orders to help D’Ippolito get on the ballot.

For me – this is not about an “operation chaos” attempt to get a weak Dem on the ballot, as I think D’Ippolito would be a tougher-than-expected opponent – especially in the wake of a highly-publicized miracle nomination. This is about democracy in action.

Sure it is.

Late Update: A reader points out that the gang over at Ace of Spades is also pushing conservatives to help d’Ippolito round up signatures in a post titled “Indiana Republicans: Go Sign This Woman’s Petitions to Get Her on the Ballot (and Guarantee a Republican Pickup).”

And she’s a neophyte the state party doesn’t like and apparently a leftish ideologue, so she can’t win.

Beautiful.
