Rep. Mike Castle (R-DE), who is facing a heated Republican senatorial primary against tea party favorite Christine O’Donnell tomorrow, told NBC today: “Bottom line is, if she’s nominated, Republicans lose the election automatically.”

“It’s that simple,” he told Kelly O’Donnell.

He also called O’Donnell’s campaign “a complete out-of-state operation,” and called her “very extreme.”

A PPP poll from today finds Castle trailing O’Donnell by three points in Tuesday’s primary. The TPM Poll Average seems to back up Castle’s point: if he’s elected, he leads Democrat Chris Coons by a margin of 47.0%-37.1%. Coons leads O’Donnell in the average by 44.0%-37.5%.
