Boehner Takes Strong Hand With House GOP After Payroll Tax Meltdown

"It may not have been politically the smartest thing in the world," Boehner said, humbly, of the fight, "but let me tell you what. I think our members waged a good fight."

"I've talked to enough members over the last 24 hours who believe that, 'Hey, we don't like this two month extension [but] if you can get this fixed, why not do the right thing for the American people, even though it's not exactly what we want."

And if any members object, will he bring the House back into session next week and force an up or down vote on it?

"Absolutely," Boehner said.
