Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg (I) is continuing his massive spending on behalf of Democrats this election, with plans to give $20 million to Senate Democrats’ main super PAC.

Bloomberg’s big contribution to the Senate Majority PAC (SMP) will provide a serious boost to Senate Democrats in their uphill battle to retake the upper chamber.

“Mayor Bloomberg is a critical ally in our quest to win Senate races in every corner of the country,” Senate Majority PAC head JB Poersch said. “Mayor Bloomberg’s contribution is another indicator that Democrats have real opportunity to take back the Senate.”

The donation nearly doubles the amount of cash the group had heading into the home stretch of the campaign — SMP had $29 million in the bank at the end of August — and could help Democrats stay at parity with Republicans in outside spending in key Senate races in places like Missouri, Indiana and Tennessee.

According to the Washington Post, which first reported the donation, this big bet is in addition to the $80 million Bloomberg had already committed to spend on the midterms. The political independent and former Republican has turned into Democrats’ biggest donor this cycle by far, helping to fund numerous groups aiming to turn Congress blue and act as a check on President Trump.

  1. Hey Gates, did you see this? How about diverting a little money from your quest to save Africa and spend a bit to save your own country? Warren? WAKE UP Warren!

  2. The Gates Foundation donates money to the poorest of African countries which have no clean water and infant mortality is high. The foundation’s primary goal is this. But there’s a saying in Hebrew which is Whoever saves one life saves the world entire, a loftier goal than financing political campaigns.

The primary aims of the foundation are, globally, to enhance healthcare and reduce extreme poverty, and the US, to expand educational opportunities and access to information technology.

  3. Let’s all give 100 million dollars to the cause!

Bloomberg has an estimated wealth of 50 billion dollars, (50 with nine zeros after it). After his 100 million dollar gift he will still have 49,900 million dollars. His decision is like someone with 50 thousand dollars giving one hundred dollars or someone with 5,000 dollars giving 10 bucks.

Bernie showed us how to make the difference ten bucks or a hundred bucks at a time. Why let the billionaires have all the fun?
