From The Reporter’s Notebook
As a follow-up to the first presidential debate, the Clinton campaign released a video of Alicia Machado recounting her own experience with the GOP nominee as the 1996 winner of the formerly Trump-owned Miss Universe competition, TPM’s Esme Cribb reported. “This is a man who doesn’t realize the damage he causes,” Machado says in the video. “Donald Trump definitely lacks the ability, experience, preparation, and human qualities, to be president of the United States.”
Agree or Disagree?
Josh Marshall: “Clinton had an important challenge in front of her. Being substantive comes easy for Clinton. That’s who she is. And she’s been in dozens of debates. But in this case she needed to be positive, buoyant and optimistic in her tone while also needling him into outbursts. That could easily come off as baiting or nasty, especially when she had to counter his confusing mix of taunts and attacks and word salad digressions. She made it seem close to effortless.”
Say What?!
“I’m very proud of him.”
– Newt Gingrich heaped praise on Donald Trump for not mentioning Bill Clinton’s sex scandals during the first presidential debate.
BUZZING: Today in the Hive
From a TPM Prime member: “This is not Obama/Romney round two. Trump has proven himself incapable of being any better prepared than he was last night. He does not have the brains, and he certainly does not have the attention span. Oh, he doesn’t have the stamina either. The one thing he will have is an audience, half of whom will send him love. Prepared or not on substance, he might give us the reality TV that he is (apparently) good at.”
