John McCain is no fan of Richard Sherman and the Seattle Seahawks, but even the Arizona senator can’t deny the dominance of the newly crowned Super Bowl champions.

McCain used Twitter on Monday to congratulate Sherman and Seattle for their blowout victory over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII.

Sherman thanked McCain for the tweet.

It was a conciliatory gesture from McCain, who took some public shots at Sherman and the Seahawks last month. McCain called Sherman, who gained national attention for his nationally televised rant after the Seahawks clinched a trip to the Super Bowl, a “loudmouth” who “sort of epitomizes the Seattle team.”

The senator also needled Seattle head coach Pete Carroll for leaving the University of Southern California shortly before the school’s football program was hit with sanctions from the NCAA.
