Looking to capitalize off the buzz surrounding the Iowa caucuses and upcoming New Hampshire primary, national Democrats are buying up several weeks of social media ads aimed at portraying the entire top tier of the GOP field as extreme.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is running ads on Google searches for Rick Santorum, Ron Paul, and Mitt Romney, taking users to a short rundown of their portrayal of the candidate’s positions and a petition to help “stop” them.

“Mitt Romney is well on his way to winning the GOP nomination to run against President Obama,” one page reads. “Romney is a true voice for the 1%, who’s still profiting from shipping American jobs overseas. And Romney holds dangerous views on social issues, too. He would overturn a woman’s right to choose and supports Paul Ryan’s plan to destroy Medicare. His views are simply dangerous.”

For Paul:

“Extremist Republican Ron Paul could win the GOP nomination to run against President Obama. Paul would overturn a woman’s right to choose, believes Medicare is unconstitutional, and once published newsletters containing virulently homophobic, racist and anti-Semitic content. His views are simply dangerous.”

And for Santorum:

“Former senator and extremist Republican Rick Santorum could win the GOP nomination to run against President Obama. Santorum would end a woman’s right to choose, ban federal funding for birth control and reinstate, ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ He also backs Paul Ryan’s plan to destroy Medicare. His views are simply dangerous.”

The DSCC also is running promoted tweets for Twitter users who checked out the #iowacaucus hashtag directing them to a vote on which candidate was most “extreme.”

According to a spokesman, the plan is to rally supporters who are starting to tune into the Republican primary now that it’s dominating news coverage. The ads are set to run for the next several weeks.
