Schumer Insists You Can’t Compare Elizabeth Warren To Ted Cruz (VIDEO)

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on Sunday highlighted the battle between Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) over the federal government funding bill.

“There are huge differences in the Republican party,” he said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “On the floor of the Senate, we saw the soul of the Republican party being debated. Ted Cruz was in the well, pushing his so-called Constitutional point of order, which risked shutting down the government.”

Schumer noted that about half of Senate Republicans voted against the funding bill, nearly causing the government to shut down.

But when host Candy Crowley noted that Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) both voted against the bill, Schumer insisted that Democrats were not divided.

“I think that the differences among Democrats are small compared to the huge chasm of Republicans,” he responded. “On the fundamental issues that face us — the economic issues that we need to address to get the middle class moving again, to get middle class incomes going again — there’s amazing unity on the Democratic side.”

“Schumer insisted that Democrats were not divided.” STF

    "
when Democrats like Charles Schumer, senator from New York, declare
that the Obama administration’s signature achievement was a mistake. In a minute I’ll take on Mr. Schumer’s recent remarks.
But first, an update on Obamacare — not the politics, but the actual
policy, which continues to rack up remarkable (and largely unreported)
    successes."

  2. And then there’s the part where Warren and Sanders are completely sane and capable of both empathy and the formation of normal human attachments and relationships. Chuck, of course, took that difference with Cruz for granted, but it simply would never even register as a meaningful difference to Monica Crowley had he mentioned it. Indeed, if Chuck had raised it, Monica would have cried “foul.”

But then there’s the chasm between Schumer and Warren. Clearly Schumer doesn’t even notice it.

The media jumped on Cruz’ stunt which was designed to draw their attention away from Warren’s cogent and serious objections to the Citigroup written amendment. Cruz has NOTHING to offer, and never has had. He’s there to get the headlines, and the news media is absolutely stupid to fall for it.

What Democrat has pulled stunts like this? No one. Schumer is often wrong but he’s right about this: it is a completely false equivalency, though trying to educate the media about that is impossible, apparently.

  5. Here’s one comparison: Warren is a responsible citizen who lives in reality; Cruz in a self-created ignoramus who lives in a right-wing fantasy bubble.
