Update: Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) told radio station WAVE it was a “mistake” to question the President’s “motives.”

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) had no comment on former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s (R) doubting that President Barack Obama “loves America,” Paul adviser Doug Stafford told TPM on Friday.

As Giuliani made the media rounds Thursday to expand on his comments about the President — even doubling down on them at times — the former mayor’s original sentiment became the latest litmus test for potential 2016 Republican presidential contenders.

The last issue that had GOP presidential hopefuls jumping to stake out a public position was vaccine mandates. Paul repeatedly clarified that he supports vaccines after originally stating that he thought vaccines ought to be “voluntary” and have anecdotally left children with “profound mental disorders.”

But Paul was not ready to jump into the latest debate.

“Don’t have a comment,” Stafford said in an email to TPM on Friday. “Thanks.”
