Cruz: Why Is Trump Relying On ‘A Huge Hillary Supporter’ For Birther Attack?

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) hit back Tuesday at rival Donald Trump’s criticisms of his eligibility to run for President by tying Trump to a Harvard law professor who Cruz said was a Hillary Clinton supporter.

Trump has renewed questions about Cruz’s eligibility to run for the presidency—he was born in Canada to an American mother—in recent days and referenced Harvard Law School’s Laurence Tribe earlier this week. Tribe, who taught constitutional law to both President Barack Obama and Cruz, has said Cruz’s eligibility is “murky and unsettled.”

Cruz characterized Tribe as a Clinton supporter when he spoke to reporters while campaigning Tuesday in Hudson, New Hampshire.

“It is more than strange to see Donald relying on, as authoritative, a liberal left wing judicial activist Harvard law professor who is a huge Hillary supporter,” Cruz said. “It starts to make you think, gosh, why are Hillary’s strongest supporters backing Donald Trump?”

Speculation began swirling this summer that Trump’s outsider presidential bid actually was a secret operation to get Clinton into the White House. Republican presidential hopeful Jeb Bush even joined in the rumor-mongering, tweeting last month that perhaps Trump had “negotiated a deal with his buddy” Clinton to elect her as President.

“You know the past couple of elections we saw the Democrats thrilled that they got the nominee they wanted to run against in the general election,” Cruz added. “It seems the Hillary folks are very eager to support Donald Trump and the attacks that are being tossed my direction.”
