A woman was accidentally shot in a Columbus, Ind. Wal-Mart on Saturday when a handgun slipped from a 56-year-old man's holster, according to The Republic.

Tony Ward told the police that his .22 caliber handgun, for which he had a permit, slipped from his waistband and accidentally discharged while he was shopping.

After Utah Gov. Gary Herbert (R) last week said that states choosing not to defend their gay marriage bans in court will lead to "anarchy," a state LGBT leader is calling for an apology.

"For elected officials, governors or attorney generals, to pick and choose what laws [they] will enforce I think is a tragedy, and is the next step to anarchy," Herbert said in a press conference last week after Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett (R) said he wouldn't appeal a court's ruling striking down the state's same-sex marriage ban. "We have an obligation as a state to defend those laws."

A GOP Pennsylvania lawmaker said on Sunday that his fellow Republican, openly gay state Rep. Mike Fleck, should have stayed in the closet.

"A lot of people thought Mike was a homosexual," state Sen. John H. Eichelberger Jr. told the Altoona Mirror newspaper about Fleck, as posted by the Raging Chicken Press blog. "If he had just gone about of his business and people thought he was a homosexual or heterosexual or whatever, there wouldn't be a problem."

President Obama in a Sunday statement congratulated Ukraine for holding a presidential election.

Despite provocations and violence, millions of Ukrainians went to the polls throughout the country, and even in parts of eastern Ukraine, where Russian-backed separatist groups sought to disenfranchise entire regions, some courageous Ukrainians still were able to cast their ballots. We commend the resolve of all those who participated, as well as the efforts of the Ukrainian government to conduct these elections in the face of those threats.

CNN "State of the Union" host Candy Crowley on Sunday sat down with the chairs of the House and Senate Veterans Affairs oversight committees to quiz them on their role in letting Veterans Affairs backlogs go unnoticed.
