Following the release of a critical Inspector General's report on the wait times at the Phoenix Veterans hospital on Wednesday, congressional Democrats joined their Republican colleagues' calls for Veterans Affairs Sec. Eric Shinseki to step down.

As of Thursday afternoon, 11 Democratic senators, all up for re-election in 2014, had called for the secretary to resign.

The two Republican senators from Arizona, John McCain and Jeff Flake, on Wednesday called for Veterans Affairs Sec. Eric Shinseki to resign following the release of an inspector general's report that concluded that wait times at Phoenix VA facilities were much longer than previously reported.

"I also, with some reluctance, believe that given the lack of responsiveness of Secretary Shinseki to numerous inquiries from Senator Flake and me, that it's time for Secretary Shinseki to step down," McCain said during a joint press conference with Flake. "If Secretary Shinseki does not step down voluntarily, then I call on the President of the United States to relieve him of his duties, to fire him."

A police officer's AR-15 rifle accidentally discharged in Hillsborough County, Fla. on Tuesday while he was on a call, according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

A police investigation into the incident determined that Officer Timothy Higgins's rifle went off due to a key ring attached to his belt, according to the News-Journal. The bullet was lodged in the rifle's trigger guard, and no injuries were reported.

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) said on Monday that if the Supreme Court rules against Hobby Lobby, which sued the federal government to block Obamacare's contraception mandate, he'll propose a constitutional amendment.

"I hope the Supreme Court doesn’t screw that up is all I can say," Hatch said about the Hobby Lobby case during a Memorial Day speech in Wood Cross, Utah, according to the Salt Lake Tribune. "Because if they foul up the First Amendment again, we are going to have a constitutional amendment. And I believe I can put one on that everybody in this country, except the nuts, will support."

With the recent emphasis on the prevalence of sexual assaults on college campuses by the White House and Congress, conservatives have pounced on the definition of sexual assault and the statistics cited when discussing the issue.

On Tuesday, Glenn Beck's The Blaze decided to air a series of pre-recorded skits in order to cast doubt on the statistics cited by the President, that one in five women have been sexually assaulted at college.
