TPM Reader DB has some thoughts on the actual value of a college degree and the debate about school debt.

A quick note about your college post. Please forgive my haste. If I had more time, my note would be shorter.

I was born in 1957, at the very peak of the Baby Boom. I am a musician and composer. I’m good at what I do. Grew up in a midwestern college town that harbors a relatively prestigious university. I was a fuck-up in high school, bad grades, great SAT/ACT scores. I lived the great American 1970s high school experience.

No regrets.

I did one year at a second tier college. Got a 4.0 GPA, got accepted into the top-tier school in my home town and then, with my 20 year old wisdom, quit higher education forever. They weren’t teaching what I was interested in.

No regrets. I didn’t want the professional middle class life the University was selling me.
