Sanders Gains On Clinton In CNN National Poll

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) trails former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton among Democrats nationwide by seven points, indicating a substantial boost in Sanders’ national support, according to a CNN/ORC poll released Monday.

The poll showed support for Clinton at 51 percent while Sanders stood at 44 percent. This indicates a substantially tighter race than the previous iteration of the same poll in late February, which showed Clinton leading Sanders 55 percent to 38 percent.

These results also are consistent with most national polls, which have shown Clinton leading by widely varying margins.

TPM’s PollTracker Average shows Clinton at 50.2 percent and Sanders at 42.4 percent in national surveys of Democrats.

The CNN/ORC poll was carried out Mar. 17-20 by telephone interview. Pollsters surveyed 478 people likely to vote in the Democratic primary, with a margin of error of 4.5 percentage points.
