The Weekly Standard, a conservative magazine that’s criticized President Trump, will shutter, with publishers opting to pour more funds into the growth of the Washington Examiner magazine, CNN reported.

The owner of the Weekly Standard’s publisher, Clarity Media, announced the closing on Friday morning, CNN reported. According to a note obtained by CNN, that was sent to staff by Weekly Standard Editor-in-chief Stephen Hayes on Friday, Hayes blamed the closure on political polarization and the media industry.

“This is a volatile time in American journalism and politics,” Hayes wrote, according to CNN. “Many media outlets have responded to the challenges of the moment by prioritizing affirmation over information, giving into the pull of polarization and the lure of clickbait.”

Staff were reportedly told to clear out of their offices by the end of the day Friday, according to a contributing editor.

Weekly Standard’s publisher, Media DC, announced it would funnel more money into the Washington Examiner magazine, which has been less disparaging of Trump, as CNN noted. The magazine will now be a weekly publication.
