House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said on Monday that she told President Donald Trump that he was “scaring the children of America” with his mass ICE raids planned for this past weekend.

Pelosi was participating in a community discussion on immigration hosted by Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY) when she brought up her phone call to Trump on Friday urging him to call off the raids, which were slated to target 2,000 families in major cities.

“When I spoke to the President, I said ‘Look, I’m a mom, I have five kids, seven, nine grandchildren and children are scared. You’re scaring the children of America, not just in those families but their neighbors and their communities. You’re scaring the children,'” Pelosi said. “And I do think that some of these groups did weigh in on the President.”

“I hope so, and now we have to continue to keep that pressure on,” the House speaker added.

Trump announced on Sunday that he would postpone the raids for two weeks in order for Congress to come up with tighter restrictions on immigration.

“If not, Deportations start!” Trump warned.
