Nick Ayers, the young and ambitious chief of staff to Vice President Mike Pence, is re-emerging as the frontrunner to replace chief of staff John Kelly, according to a Tuesday Politico report.

President Donald Trump reportedly liked Ayers for the gig this summer when rumors flew about Kelly’s possible ouster, though the conversation was put on hold when Kelly announced that he intended to stay until 2020.

Ayers has found friends in some of Trump’s inner circle, including Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner and Donald Trump Jr.

Kelly, along with his protege Kirstjen Nielson, seem to be on their way out in upcoming weeks.
