Rep. Steve King (R-IA) asked a crowd at a town hall Monday to pray that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) restore King’s committee assignments, which were stripped from him after he made offensive comments about white supremacy.
King said that McCarthy needed to “separate his ego from this issue and look at it objectively,” according to the Sioux City Journal.
He told the crowd that as soon as he could rally a large enough faction of Republicans to back him, he’d get his committees back. He added that some had privately told him they think he got a raw deal.
King used his customary defense at the town hall, saying that the reporter “at best” misquoted him and that “the sentence construction doesn’t support The New York Times.”
He also bemoaned that he had yet again fallen victim to the arbiters of political correctness. “The language police are out there day after day after day after day,” King said. “They are searching the internet for something to be offended by.”
King has a rich history of offensive statements and actions.
