Donald Trump called into Fox News Monday evening to chat with Bill O’Reilly as speakers were on stage during opening night at the Republican National Convention.
Trump and O’Reilly discussed a variety of topics, including Black Lives Matter, Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) and his running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence.
The real estate mogul said he believes Black Lives Matter poses a threat to police officers. Trump said he’d have to discuss with his attorney general “or do something” about that threat. At minimum, he said, “we’re going to have to be watching.”
When O’Reilly asked Trump if he thought the movement could be a “fuse lighter” in killings of law enforcement officers, Trump responded, “in certain cases they are.”
“They certainly have ignited people and you see that. You see that all over,” Trump said, adding that he saw himself as the “least racist” person.
Trump also said that he didn’t blame Kasich for skipping the GOP convention in his home state.
“If I were him and gotten beaten that badly, I probably wouldn’t show up either,” Trump said. “He has a problem though, he signed a pledge. And from a standpoint of honor, I think he should show up.”
Trump, an outspoken critic of the Iraq War, also discussed his deviation from his running mate on that topic. Pence voted to invade Iraq while he was in Congress.
The businessman said that Pence “made decisions different than I would have made” many years ago. But he denied reports that he considered taking back his offer to Pence for the VP spot.
“I was 100 percent sure of my choice,” Trump said.
