Listen To The Painfully Earnest Rap Song Dedicated To Ted Cruz (AUDIO)

If the Founding Fathers had founded a rap group, surely they would have sounded like the trigger-happy, freedom-loving hip-hop artists “We Are Watchmen.”

That’s what they suggest, anyway, in their new track endorsing presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), “Set It On Fire,” posted to YouTube on Wednesday.

“When power is concentrated centrally and federally / It creates dependency that’s medically like leprosy,” belt the group in the high-octane tribute to Cruz and the American Way.

A further taste:

Make D.C. listen, switch off the dead news / The lamestream media feeding us the Fed stew / Collectivism, everyone’s a victim like the Reds do / And for our next president, we’re all in for Ted Cruz.

The band posted an equally baffling, Nazi-referencing statement on their website, flagged by New York magazine:

Just as many churches in Germany sang louder on Sunday mornings to drown out the sounds of wailing Jews in boxcars on the way to the concentration camps, the majority of pulpits and pews in the American churches have been willfully ignoring the stench of blatant evil rising in this once godly nation.

Listen to the song:

Dear Reader,

When we asked recently what makes TPM different from other outlets, readers cited factors like honesty, curiosity, transparency, and our vibrant community. They also pointed to our ability to report on important stories and trends long before they are picked up by mainstream outlets; our ability to contextualize information within the arc of history; and our focus on the real-world consequences of the news.

Our unique approach to reporting and presenting the news, however, wouldn’t be possible without our readers’ support. That’s not just marketing speak, it’s true: our work would literally not be possible without readers deciding to become members. Not only does member support account for more than 80% of TPM’s revenue, our members have helped us build an engaged and informed community. Many of our best stories were born from reader tips and valuable member feedback.

We do what other news outlets can’t or won’t do because our members’ support gives us real independence.

If you enjoy reading TPM and value what we do, become a member today.
