President Obama reached out to Senate Republicans on Thursday with an offer to avert the so-called fiscal cliff, according to a Facebook status update posted by Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA).
“Heading back to [DC],” Brown writes. “Just learned that the Pres. reached out to Senate GOP leadership with a proposal. It is the first such proposal to be put forth. Eager to see why it is. How it is serious.”
Brown later corrects: “Hope it is serious.”
UPDATE: A GOP source was more guarded about Brown’s post, telling TPM: “While we’re expecting Democrats to finally act, I don’t have a specific timeframe.”
LATE UPDATE: TPM’s Sahil Kapur reports that Brown jumped the gun:
I’m told reports that the White House is sending an offer to the hill are NOT accurate.

And now a Reid aide tells me the reports about an impending Obama offer are “not true.”
