The author of a forthcoming book about Roger Ailes pushed back Wednesday on some of the Fox News chief’s recent comments.
In a statement provided to TPM, Gabriel Sherman, author of “The Loudest Voice in the Room: How the Brilliant, Bombastic Roger Ailes Built Fox News–and Divided a Country,” disputed Ailes’s claim about the research behind the book.
Ailes told The Hollywood Reporter that Random House, the publisher for Sherman’s book, “refused to fact check the content with me or Fox News.”
But Sherman remembers things a bit differently.
“During two and a half years of reporting, I made a dozen requests both in writing and in person to speak with Roger Ailes about every aspect of my book, The Loudest Voice in the Room,” Sherman said in the statement.
“A team of two fact-checkers spent more than 2,000 hours vetting the manuscript before publication. Roger Ailes declined every request to discuss the reporting with me.”
Sherman’s book, due out on Jan. 21, includes an allegation that Ailes once offered a female employee a higher salary in exchange for sex.
