By a wide margin, voters expect President Obama to win the upcoming debates this month, according to the latest Washington Post-ABC News poll released Monday. Among registered voters, 56 percent said they thought Obama would win while just 29 percent said they thought Mitt Romney would win.

Respondents also showed a high level of interest in the debates, with 81 percent showing some level of interest and 51 percent saying they are very interested.

The Obama campaign has been trying to tamp down expectations heading into the first debate Wednesday, stressing that Romney has had more practice due to the GOP primary and that the duties of governing have given Obama less time to prepare than he would have liked.

The poll was conducted Sept. 26-29 among 1,101 adults, including 929 registered voters, and has a margin of error of +/- 3.5 percent.
