Kentucky Democratic Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes leads Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) in a new poll.

The Public Policy Polling survey, released a day after McConnell inked a deal with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) to avert a debt default, shows Grimes leading McConnell 45 percent to 43 percent in the 2014 race.

Among Independents, 40 percent said they support McConnell while 34 percent said they support Grimes. Twenty-four percent said they are unsure.

Sixty percent of respondents opposed the government shutdown while just 32 percent supported it. Seventy-two percent of Democrats said they opposed the shutdown while 20 percent said they supported it. Among Republicans, the results were more split. Fifty percent said they support the shutdown while 43 percent said they oppose it.

Moreover, 48 percent of voters said they’re less likely to back McConnell because of the shutdown, while 34 percent said they’re more likely to support him.

The survey was conducted among 1,193 Kentucky voters between October 14th and 15th and had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.8 percentage points. Fifty-three percent of those surveyed in the poll identified as Democrats while 37 percent identified as Republicans. Eleven percent in the poll identified as either an Independent or Other.
