House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is calling on House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) to demand the immediate resignation of Rep. Michael Grimm (R-NY), who reportedly plans to plead guilty to federal tax evasion charges on Tuesday.

“Now that the election is over, Congressman Grimm is finally admitting the truth to his constituents,” Pelosi said in a brief statement on Tuesday morning. “Clearly, Speaker Boehner must insist that Congressman Grimm resign immediately.”

Pelosi’s statement comes a day after news broke that Grimm, who was re-elected in November while under indictment, is expected to plead to tax evasion for his role in hiding $1 million worth of sales and wages at the restaurant he helped run before he came to Congress.

Boehner’s office said it would not comment until the speaker met with Grimm.

“We won’t have any announcements until the Speaker discusses the matter with Mr. Grimm,” Boehner spokesman Michael Steel said in a statement.
