Dave Agema, a former state representative and current Michigan Republican National committeeman, said Saturday that gay people “want free medical because they’re dying.”

Agema told attendees at the Berrien County Republican Party Holiday Reception in Michigan that while he worked at American Airlines people would claim that someone was their partner so that they could get free AIDS treatment.

“Folks, they (gay people) want free medical because they’re dying (when they’re) between 30 and 44 years old,” he said, according to the Herald-Palladium. “To me, it’s a moral issue. It’s a Biblical issue. Traditional marriage is where it should be and it’s in our platform. Those in our party who oppose traditional marriage are wrong.”

Agema has gotten into hot water before for his remarks about gay people. In March, he posted an article to Facebook that described gay peopls as “filthy,” and Republicans in the state called for his resignation from the committee. Agema then defended his decision to post the article.

“Since it’s part of our national platform — marriage between a man and a woman — this is perfectly appropriate,” he said. “People ought to be looking at the statistics that are out there. If the Supreme Court passes this law and allows same-sex marriages, you can expect many things, in my opinion.”

About two weeks later, Agema compared being gay to alcoholism.
