Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) had no idea that his staff invited Kentucky clerk Kim Davis to Tuesday night’s State of the Union Address, according to a Huffington Post report.

HuffPost reporter Matt Fuller tracked Jordan to the Capitol basement, where he confirmed that his staff had given a ticket to the conservative Family Research Council, which then passed it along to Davis.

“At the request of the Family Research Council, we gave the ticket to Kim Davis’ family,” he told Fuller, as his communications director provided the information over the phone. “I found out today.”

Jordan, the head of the House Freedom Caucus, had initially told HuffPost that he “didn’t invite anyone” to the address.

Questions about the source of Davis’ invitation reverberated across Capitol Hill this afternoon. The controversial county clerk, who was jailed this summer after refusing to grant marriage licenses to same-sex couples, is expected to attend the State of the Union with her lawyer, Mat Staver.
