The Federal Elections Commission website is making up for lost time due to the government shutdown and not fining filers whose reports were due while the shutdown was in effect.

Because of the shutdown FEC staff were furloughed and certain reports on the website were unavailable. The normal filing deadlines for quarterly congressional reports was October 15.

To compensate, the FEC is waiving late fees for filers until Friday night and making staff available to help filers until 8 p.m. Thursday night, according to the FEC website. The FEC restarted its full operations on Thursday, shortly after the shutdown ended.
