Congress is poised to move a three-day continuing resolution to keep the government funded past Jan. 15 while appropriators wrap up a comprehensive spending bill, known as an omnibus.
The decision, designed to remove the risk of a brief government shutdown, was confirmed Friday by the offices of Senate Appropriations Chair Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) and House Appropriations Chair Hal Rogers (R-KY).
“We’re making solid progress and I’m confident that next week we’ll have a bipartisan agreement that finds common ground,” Mikulski said in a statement. “This very short extension is needed to prevent any funding gaps as the agreement moves through the House and Senate next week.”
The 2014 discretionary spending level will be $1.102 trillion, which Congress approved in the Ryan-Murray budget deal last month.
