The new Mason-Dixon poll of the Nevada Senate race shows Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid taking the lead over the Republican nominee, former state Rep. Sharron Angle, thanks to a sharp drop in support for Angle in the wake of increased media coverage of her hardline conservative positions.
The numbers: Reid 44%, Angle 37%. The survey of likely voters has a ±4% margin of error. In the previous Mason-Dixon poll from early June, shortly before the Republican primary, Angle led Reid by 44%-41%.
“He’s had five perfect weeks,” Brad Coker of Mason-Dixon told the Las Vegas Review Journal, which sponsored the survey. “The race has been all about her, and he’s been doing a good job of pounding her.”
The TPM Poll Average now gives Reid a narrow edge of 42.8%-42.6% — the first time this year that Reid has led in the average.
