House Leadership Aide: ‘We Won’t Adjourn This Week’

September 21, 2010 6:48 a.m.

Following an article in Politico that claimed House Democrats might adjourn on Friday until after the elections, House Democrats are denying that any such move is in the works.

A House leadership aide told TPMDC flatly, “We won’t adjourn this week.”The Politico article mentioned that the early adjournment would likely hinge at least upon passage of a continuing resolution to fund the government until after the elections, and that it might additionally be postponed until after a vote on the expiring Bush tax cuts.

The Democratic aide added that there was no vote on the tax cuts yet in the offing: House Democrats are waiting for the Senate to vote first.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, meanwhile, told reporters this morning the Politico report is absolutely not true.
