Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX), who is proposing a bill to allow members of Congress to carry guns in the Capitol and D.C., explained today: “Saying guns are the problem is like saying spoons are what make people fat. Maybe we’ll need to regulate the size of spoons.”
Speaking on Fox And Friends, Gohmert responded to a question about whether members of Congress were carrying guns now, saying “perhaps. I’m not. But I know that guns are the great equalizer.”
Gohmert has previously said of the legislation: “There is a rash of legislation further infringing on Second Amendment rights that has been unwisely proffered in the wake of events in Tucson,” he told The Hill. “If members of Congress wish to carry a weapon in the federal District of Columbia, it should be permissible. Accordingly, we are in the process of drafting a bill that will allow members of Congress to do that.”
