The Daily Caller Hires Tea Partying Wife Of Supreme Court Justice As ‘Special Correspondent’

March 22, 2011 6:19 a.m.

Ginni Thomas, the tea party leader, health care reform foe, and controversial wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, will join The Daily Caller as a reporter.

From Business Wire: “As The Daily Caller’s special correspondent, Thomas will interview key political and community leaders — from high-profile politicians to grassroots activists — with a focus on listening to those outside the Beltway.”

Thomas is no stranger to the spotlight. She worked in 2010 to defeat Democrats, and her role as a de facto tea party, anti-health care reform lobbyist have led critics to demand that her husband recuse himself when the health care law appears before the Supreme Court. She’s no stranger to the Caller either — it’s where she took refuge when her most recent scandal aired out in the press. In 2010, it was revealed that she’d telephoned Anita Hill — the woman who accused her husband of sexual harassment during his Supreme Court confirmation hearing back in 1991 — to ask for an apology. Shortly after that episode was publicized, she stepped down from her job as head of the organization Liberty Central, which boasts of assisting grassroots clients with governmental affairs, but isn’t a registered lobbying firm.

(Thomas’ successor as president and CEO of Liberty Central is Gary Aldrich, the former FBI agent who once worked in the Clinton White House and became a right wing fave after retiring and writing a scathing and dubious book titled Unlimited Access – An FBI Agent Inside the Clinton White House.)

After leaving Liberty Central, Thomas set up Liberty Consulting, which billed itself as an advocacy firm, but there were no records of Thomas having registered as a lobbyist. The website for Liberty Consulting was down as of Tuesday morning. She was also touting herself as an “ambassador” to the incoming Republican freshman class.

To escape the media storm, Thomas took shelter at the Caller.

In an interview with her now-employer late last year, she called the idea that she stepped down from Liberty Central over the phone call to Hill “laughable,’ but acknowledged, “It was probably a mistake on my part.”

“We are thrilled to have Ginni Thomas join The Daily Caller as a special correspondent to interview both established and emerging leaders about the serious questions facing our country,” said Neil Patel, publisher and CEO of The Daily Caller. “Ginni is always upbeat, she has an unbelievable amount of energy and enthusiasm and she knows our political system as well as anyone in Washington. We could not imagine a better person to take on this role.”
