Stephen Colbert on Tuesday took on the war on guns that President Obama is not waging. A Fox News segment Colbert ran shows that gun sales are spiking ahead of the November election, because voters are apparently worried that Obama will crack down on guns. People are buying so many guns that supply is running low.

“The fear of not being able to buy guns has led to buying so many guns that now we can’t buy any guns, just like we feared,” Colbert said. Is Colbert just being irrational? “It’s happened before,” he assured. “In 2008, when people bought guns before Obama took office, because they knew he’d pass harsh gun regulations, which he didn’t.”

It’s part of a giant Obama conspiracy, Colbert said. “The total lack of evidence is all the evidence I need.”
