Former Gov. John Baldacci (D-ME), is not running for the state’s newly open Senate seat, the Bangor Daily News reports — seemingly taking the last top-tier Democrat out of the race, and further clearing the field for independent former Gov. Angus King.
“I’m more about Maine than I am about Washington,” said Baldacci.
Last week, Rep. Chellie Pingree announced that she would not run, either.
The seat became open two weeks ago, with the surprise retirement announcement by Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe, who had been viewed as safe for re-election.
