A plea for what I would like to hear more
Not that I have not been hearing this from my side of the isle, I just dont think that I have been hearing it enough, or as forcefully! The American dream is to own a home. After 911, the President said to go shop(not responsible).
Wages have been dropping consistantly for 8 years if not more. Inflation continues to grow. We have stagflation! So if workers/people were encouraged to buy homes by the fed. Told by loan companies to risk buying a home, and then they lost their job, got sick and lost their job, or had mortgages with Balloons they could not afford..all of the above, then why are alot of the pundits conceiding the argument that it was the irresponsible home buyers who messed up? (yes I know Obama did all I asked in the debate last night).....I watched that crapy View show this morning, and that Hannity hack continues to get away with spouting that! Now McCain is the savor with his crap new plan. I can hear it now, see he is the Maverick because his party wont like this proposal....vooooommmiiiittt!
Its becomming common knowledge(perception) that it was the buyers and not the state of the economy that led to the housing market. The sensible thing to me is if wages were on an upward pattern, then things would not be as bad as they are. Wages are down, thats the reason things are falling apart. I find it hard to believe that people just want to lose their homes. Sure their were loans being given to risky people, but they have to live somewhere too. It is sad that this argument is being lost, and the finger being pointed at Blacks who are only 15% of the population. At least that is their argument, and it has become the perception. Just a plea for Dems to push back harder on that, thats all.

Interestingly, in 2002, he also said, "minorities, please buy houses":

I'm not implying anything fer or agin on that, just pointing out that things are not as black and white (no pun intended) on this issue as some might think.

Be aware that there is an active campaign on the internet and on Fox (funded by homebuilder PACs) to give the impression that it was all the "minorities" buying houses that caused the problem. This is to deflect public opinion away from the big corporate homebuilders, who profited bigtime from such easy money as was available. It's a "perception management" campaign that is going to reap a lot of profits for public relations firms.

I am absolutely aware of this cshearer. That is why Im so concerned with the argument being lost. I dont think the Dems are thinking ahead. I think the other side thinks as long as they have an argument (in defense of the last 8 years), not one that hold much water, is more important to them. Like they are winning the war and losing the battle. Its another talking point, another false perception that if not beaten back, will have implications on minorities for down the road when they start their stupid talking points. It should be drown out now.
