Obama on Palin: "Back off these kinds of stories...People's families are off limits."
From Ben Smith at Politico:
No.
But he has done what he should have done and officially acknowledge, denounced and distanced himself from the issue.
"I have said before and I will repeat again: People's families are off limits," Obama said. "And people's children are especially off-limits. This shouldn't be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin's performance as a governor or her potential performance as a vice president. So I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories. You know my mother had me when she was 18 and how a family deals with issues and teenage children, that shouldn’t be a topic of our politics."There you have it. Obama has officially put out the call to take the high road. Will it stop the rumormill and blogosphere voyeur-vetting?
On charges that his campaign has stoked the story via liberal blogs:"I am offended by that statement. There is no evidence at all that any of this involved us," he said. "Our people were not involved in any way in this, and they will not be. And if I thought there was somebody in my campaign who was involved in something like that, they would be fired."
No.
But he has done what he should have done and officially acknowledge, denounced and distanced himself from the issue.

It's bit too late, the damage is already done. The blogosphere will have now have to be denounced and rejected till Nov., and mybarackobama.com better have a lot of moderators on duty 24/7.

I just watched Karl Rove on Faux News saying that Obama's reponse was exactly correct.
I guess that makes it official, this election is in the bag for Obama.
Karl was NOT a happy camper.
He knows that the game is over.
Really makes you wonder if he was the primary force behind McCain getting overruled on naming Lieberman. He was certainly one of the "most enthusiastic" supporters of little miss Hockey Mom.

Nice. I like the man's standards and decisiveness, which is why I support him totally.
It's also worth noting that Obama's 18-year-old mother could have aborted him, too, and we would not be where we are today. That is an alternative I find very disturbing. I'm just sayin... you never know, and that ought to introduce some humility into the mix.
I'm all for choice, and firmly believe a woman ought to have total control over what happens to her body. The government has no business interfering. But this other issue-- the unknown value of a new life-- complicates things. All in all, though, I'll trust women, generically speaking, to make the right decisions more often than not, and take everything into account.
But let's lay off the kid. McCain's the issue first, his judgment and temperament. Palin's judgment and qualifications to be, potentially, able to fulfill the obligations of president are legitimate targets, as well. If she abused power, or lied about her own pregnancy, that's one thing. But lying to protect one's child is permissible, IMHO.

Obama's response was exactly right. You would think that the revelation that, as of Sept. 1, Bristol is five months pregnant would kill the rumors that, as of April, Bristol gave birth. You would think ...
