A comedian does the news media's job
I'm watching Letterman now and his interview with Obama is good. A comedian is talking with Obama about issues (and biography) on the same day when the rest of the media is talking about lipstick and fake outrage. Sure, Dave doesn't forget he's a comedian and still talks some about lipstick, but then it's on to a lengthy interview covering all sorts of stuff (though, it's late-night softball, not a hard-hitting interview)
The rest of the media seems to be having a meta-conversation about the media avoiding its responsibilities while avoiding its responsibilities.
And I have to say that Obama looks good here -- seems more comfortable than he did on Countdown last night. Maybe having some "silly season" to talk about helps him find a groove?

Just finished watching the interview with Letterman. Pretty refreshing, and informative and Obama did look relaxed and like he was having fun.
Meanwhile, every news organization is investigating the allegations of whether or not Obama called John McCain a fish.

I loved the Letterman interview -- Barack was relaxed, funny, sharp. Great tv.
But if you turned off after Letterman, you missed a great chaser. Craig Ferguson flipped out and went all Howard Beale on the news media, complaining about their obsession with lipstick and personalities while we're in the midst of two wars and people are losing their homes.
It was ostensibly nonpartisan, but in practice, pretty much Obama's response from earlier today -- except delivered in a crazed Scottish rant.
Oh, and for the youngsters out there:

Yeah, I watched Letterman and thought Barack was his best self... although I wish he hadn't said the word "hamlet," when talking about a town... seemed a bit archaic.
but Craig's my man. I tape him every night to watch the next day, and happened to catch the beginning tonight and was riveted. I personally think he's the funniest, smartest sexiest of the late night hosts. You can just sort of tell that he's an idealist pretending to be all jaded and stuff, but it shows through, anyway. LOVE HIM!

Obama was excellent on Letterman. He should do more late-night appearances. It has to be one of the few times large audiences see more than a soundbite.

The Obama clip on Letterman's site appears to be malfunctioning, but his video and Craig's monologues aren't usually updated on the official sites until the next day.
Nonetheless, Craig's monologue from tonight is now up on CBS's YouTube channel, so I thought that I'd toss a link;

It seems to be working now, but I don't think it's complete. I guess I'll have to wait till it's youtube'd or transcribed somewhere to be sure.

Yes. What is going on in the world when the comedians are better at journalism and issues than the MSM? When Letterman and Steward are political heroes doing a better job??
