THE FIASCO AT INVESCO

We must not let this happen!!!  This plays right into the Republicans "celebrity" theme, and will simply cheapen the entire event.   Rather than looking like Dr. King's speech at the March on Washington, or Kennedy's acceptance address, Will.i.am is going to turn this into a Hollywood mess, providing McCain with plenty of images for his next commercial.

REPORT:  The Emmy-winning "Yes We Can" video that spliced together clips of Barack Obama's New Hampshire primary night speech and set it to music, will be re-created live on stage at Invesco Field in Denver Thursday night before the Illinois senator accepts the Democratic presidential nomination there.
The video, which appeared shortly before Super Tuesday, became an Internet sensation. It was adopted by the Obama campaign, and used often on the trail.
Black Eyed Peas frontman Will.i.am — who produced the celebrity-packed video — will perform Thursday evening, backed by singer John Legend and a full gospel choir.

So I suppose instead of aiming our guns and McCain and the Republican party for the damage they have done, we'll just hand over the ammo.

errr, AT McCain...

I disagree...I feel the will set the stage for Obama and electify the crowd! It will be a great visual for people watching on TV as well! Voters vote with their emotions!

Chill...

Let the 79,000 people who will start gathering at invesco early in the day, enjoy food ,music, videos, speeches and the full spectacle of what is a lifetime opportunity.

McCain's celebrity attacks are based on his jealousy that he does not have Obama's power to persuade.

Let watch will.i.am. Let them watch Stevie Wonder. Let them marvel at the classical backdrop. Let them commune. Let them remind each other how important it is to come together and vote.

The columns don't exactly sound inspiring, either. Sigh.

Actually things look a lot different close up...

Exactly. Everybody relax.

The purpose of this event is not to win over the 79K, but to finally make the case to the undecided voters that Obama has the right stuff, and is not just a "celebrity." Like it or not, that theme is powerful and resonates with a lot of white, working-class voters. Seeing a bunch of hollywood performers up will only further solidify the celebrity theme and provide further ammo to McCain.

Yes, voters vote with their emotions -- but the emotional reaction can vary widely. Will.i.am will not help Obama establish his bona fides to be President among a large group of voters already primed to be suspicious of Obama for numerous reasons (some illegitimate and disgusting, and some not).

Are really going to let THEM control OUR message and OUR celebration? If we do, then we have already lost Have you considered that they've made a big mistake saying Barack Obama is an empty suit, nothing more than a celebrity. He won't have to work that hard to be a credible and persuasive candidate after a slam like that.

I mean really, since when is it a problem to be popular and fire up enthusiasm? Instead of trying to hide it an running from it, we should be forcefully throwing it into the Repug's faces. It is not our fault that they generate all the enthusiasm and excitement that one feels when watching paint dry, so screw that; enjoy the excitement.
