OH, SNAP! John McCain is actively trying to raise money here at TPM, RIGHT NOW

Has anybody noticed the ads that appear between the end of a blog and the comments section that feature Akmadinij...(Iranian figurehead, I can't spell it) and Obama in a split panel picture?  I largely ignored it, but I happened to notice that it says at the bottom "Paid For by John McCain, 2008".  THAT, piqued my interest.

So I read the ad.  It says 'Is it OK to met unconditionally with anti-american forgien leaders?'  So I figured it might be some poll, but it doesn't matter whether you click 'Yes' or 'No', it opens a page for you to donate to McCain's campaign.  Try it, you'll like it.

Now, I'm all for the open market, and I'm more than willing to discuss politics with people who don't share my views.  But this is just a waste of money for McCain (a good thing).  How many people here would give money to the McCain campaign?  Five? Ten?  It's obvious that he's trying to court the women who would vote McCain over Obama.  This is offensive.

The mere tactic is misleading because it's not a poll, it's McCain trying to split the D-Party.  It's particularly offensive after some of the recent posts (particularly LisB's wonderful insight into the complex issue of women's rights) given here.

I won't stand for it.  It time to hit back.  We need to show this mysoginist what the internet can do.  Here's where I'm at a loss.

We need to show McCain's people that we are united against him.  Democrats, Independs, and Republicans.  I would love to hear from you how we can hit him and hit him hard.  This is not philosophy any longer.  I'm talking about action.  If you are not willing to act on your suggestion you need not respond.  The enemy thought he could infiltrate our camp using typical, misleading Bush strategies.  I, for one, won't stand for it.

I want us to discuss options that we can use, as a whole, over the internet.  Then I want us to take action, and if have to attach my real name to it I will, enthusiastically.

I'm serious.  I watched Obama's speech to his campaign staff, and he's right, "If we screw this up, noone will get help for the next four years" (paraphrased, but not the if we screw this up part).

McCain is officially a corporate troll, but this time we know excatly who to hit.  Let's do something.  Let's unite.  Let's not screw this one up this time.  Let's discuss, and then act.  We need to send a message:  Don't come to our home turf and expect us to capitulate.  (I'm going to try to cross post this at DKos and MyDD, I've never done it before so if I'm not successful, I hope someone here will.  Also, I give anyone permission to post this somewhere else.  Even at little green footballs or whereever.  I'm not afraid of who I am, and I'm not afraid to stand up for Americans needing help.  The only caveat is that you MUST post the entire blog.)

I've said it before. A good wooing by McCain is likely to go further convincing folks to vote for Obama than anything .... that's a creepiness I wouldn't wish on anyone!

A Hillary voter might VOTE for McCain ... I just don't see them giving him any money. He'd have been smarter linking to something else ... like his new ad where he looks like a friggin ghost!

It's just an ad, not an invasion. So Josh takes McCain's money, keeps this site open, and McCain gains nothing because no one here is gonna fall for the ad. My sword remains in my scabbard.

I agree, whole-heartedly. Advertising is how we can have site's like this. AND TPM shouldn't reject McCain's money if it keeps this site alive (not that it does). But what this shows is that McCain is a predator.

You could spend five minutes here and know that this site is a week prospect for McCain. What they are really trying to do is divide the Democratic party. And more than that, they're trying to drive away Independs.

This post is about action. This post is about how we are not going to leave it to someone else this time. This post is about how we are willing to take it into our hands this time.

I watched the Obama "morale" speech to his staff. He didn't say White House once. To paraphrase, he said this is our race to fuck up. I don't want it fucked up. And I am trying to do whatever I can to prevent that.

And if only two people read this, OK. I tried. I'll try again next time. (In honor of Crankypants) We. Need. Unity. I'm not even a Democrat, for christ sake!

I want healing all across America. I want change, how about you? And I'm no longer satisfied with words, I want action.

Wonder if it's pay-per-click? If so, click away!

Donate a penny, it actually costs more to process the transaction.

I have thought of this strategy myself. However, I don't know that:

it actually costs more to process the transaction.

is actually true.

OK, I agree with your posts. But let's actually do something coordinated here. What can we do, over the internets, to show McCain he doesn't know what he's dealing with?

Nope. AdBlock really works.

You mean Ahmadinnerjacket?

I always click on the ads from Republicans because it costs them money when you click through. It's like a donation from John McCain to whatever liberal blog you're reading.

Money is money...

On the other hand did anyone else notice the ad is very awkwardly worded?

I am not an English major so I don't know the technical term for this kind of sentence structure but the ad says

"Is it OK to meet unconditionally with anti-american foreignn leaders?"

Wouldn't it be better to say "Is it OK to meet with anti-american foreign leaders unconditionally?"

I have to sit and think about what the heck the first one says, the 2nd one is a lot easier to get at first glance. I am sure they are doing this on purpose to emphasize the unconditionally part but like everything else with the McC campaign, it just seems off somehow.

On the substance - they must think they have a winner here but too bad most Americans agree with Obama - at least according to the polls.

it is however not merely trolling for funds but rather I think more of a push-polling topic.

Wherever posted, the reader without a huge amount of recent political history in her pocket fails to think, 'hey wait - isn't meeting with Iran and Syria exactly what our bipartisan Iraq Study Group recommended?"

So perhaps, topic by topic, we should have facts at the ready. Here's a quote from the ISG for those with more creativity than I have as to _how_ (perhaps one of those embedded signature links?):

"Dealing with Iran and Syria is controversial. Nevertheless, it is our view that in diplomacy, a nation can and should engage its adversaries and enemies to try to resolve conflicts and differences consistent with its own interests. Accordingly, the Support Group should actively engage Iran and Syria in its diplomatic dialogue, without preconditions."

Thanks Peeps, I guess I was the one who needed to be educated.
