Ultimately, America will get the leadership it deserves
The democratic nominee has been all but decided. The nomination battle was a spirited, tough, and downright discouraging at times, but it really showed us the best and worst of what America has to offer.
I am not one of those people who insist that democrats must vote for democrats, irrespective of competing interests that compel them to do otherwise. However, I do hope that democrats will vote for the democratic nominee if those competing interests do not rise above the level of sour grapes. Indeed, the right to vote is both sacred and personal, and the decision to cast a ballot or not can rest on any reason or no reason at all.
This leads to my real point. America will get the leadership she deserves. If we allow the country to be divided by the bitter and the hateful, our democratic chickens will come home to roost, resulting in generations of bitterness left behind by John McCain.
If the democratic party cannot somehow unite itself, I am convinced that america will get the leadership it deserves. We will be facing at least four years of John McCain. The Iraq war will continue, a war in Iran Will begin, MCain will not know who we are fighting or why, and while chasing Osama Bin Laden to the gates of hell in his speeches, McCain would be content to let Bin Laden sip lemonade and make videos in his front yard. If this time comes, I will just sit back and laugh at the destruction America has brought upon itself. I will laugh not because it would be funny, but because it would be tragic. All the warning signs are there. If the majority of voters choose to ignore them, I will be content.
Honestly, I am not particularly mad about W's performance. I am an American and I am a patriot, but I believe that America chose Bush and barring treasonous acts by him, America is getting what it paid for. I recall in one of his early speeches he spoke about invading Iraq. This is before Sept 11, before he was in office, and no one cared then.
McCain is the same. Bomb bomb bomb bomb bomb Iran. The republicans are setting the stage and democrats are whining about ...fuck it. I don't even want to finish this.

I guess that's why I remain hopeful. We are seeing something this year that has been long anticipated but never realized.
The last time a governing majority came together in America was under FDR. That is an awfully long time to be at each other's throats.
The threat of the Soviet Union held us together in the years following the New Deal, through Korean and Civil Rights and Vietnam, but state governments directed national guard forces to fire on American citizens and suspend civil liberties throughout American cities, even as LBJ championed landmark legislation to help level the playing field at the federal level.
For the last 40 years, our country has become more divided and easier to control. We have been turned from citizens into consumers. We didn't hear too much in the news on May 4th this year, but that was the 38th anniversary of American troops killing four American students at Kent State. Where is our outrage? Where did our societal memories go? Has the social compact outlined in the Constitution completely broken down since 1968?
Is that all it took - treats, toys and time? Bread and Circus indeed.
This year our long-simmering discontent has been turned into hope by a transformational candidate for president. Barack Obama has described a true governing majority for the first time in at least 60 years of American politics. A motived electorate consisting of republicans, democrats and independents designing a strategy for a modern and forward-thinking America based on common sense and best practices from around the globe.
I fully believe this silent majority will elect Barack in November and give him a filibuster-proof Congress.
The real work begins in January 2009.
