After Republicans expanded their majority in the House of Representatives on Tuesday, giving the party its largest number of seats in the lower chamber since World War II, "Meet the Press" moderator Chuck Todd made an observation that probably triggered even more Democratic heartache.

"So this really secures the House Republican majority for the rest of this decade," Todd said during NBC's election coverage. "Not until 2022, I think, at the earliest, will you see Democrats have a chance at winning the House."

Shortly after 6 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum stood beside a giant graphic showing exit poll data from the New Hampshire Senate race between Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (R-NH) and Republican challenger Scott Brown.

"And look how tight this is: 49 percent of the independents going for Shaheen at this moment, 50 percent for Brown," MacCallum said. "This one's been neck-and-neck all along."

Within minutes, MacCallum and company were getting called out for an apparent election night faux pas.

"Fox News definitely just broke the rules for exit polls," read the headline over at the explainer website Vox.

Soon, Democrats won't have Michele Bachmann to kick around in Congress anymore, but the outgoing Minnesota Republican isn't disappearing completely.

In an interview with Fox News host Gretchen Carlson on Tuesday, Bachmann said she intends to "remain fully engaged on the national scene," suggesting that a syndicated column and talk radio could both be in her future.
