In a never-before-seen statement written by George Zimmerman on the night he killed unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin, the neighborhood watchman told police he was walking back to his vehicle when the teen "emerged from the darkness," punched him in the face, knocked him to the ground and started slamming his head into the sidewalk.
"I unholstered my firearm in fear for my life as he had assured me he was going to kill me and fired one shot into his torso," Zimmerman wrote. "The suspect sat back allowing me to sit up and said 'you got me.'"
The statement is just one of several Zimmerman gave to police and that were released to the public on Thursday morning by his defense team. Read it here:
