Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called for a dialogue on government surveillance Friday, her comments coming as American allies raise concerns over U.S. spying.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Friday laid the blame for the unsuccessful defund Obamacare effort squarely on Senate Republicans in his keynote speech at an Iowa GOP fundraiser.

“We didn’t accomplish our ultimate policy goal in this battle, and we didn’t because unfortunately a significant number of Senate Republicans chose not to unite and stand side by side with House Republicans,” Cruz said at the Iowa GOP's Ronald Reagan dinner, as quoted by the Des Moines Register. “Had we stood together I’m convinced the outcome of this fight would be very, very different."

Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) told Salon in an interview published Friday that he believes President Barack Obama should think about expanding deferred deportations he granted to DREAMers, or illegal immigrants brought here as children, to others who came to the U.S. illegally. 

"There are devastating effects if the Congress of the United States cannot enact comprehensive immigration reform – then the President of the United States has the responsibility to act to defend those immigrants which he says he wants to provide safety and justice for," Gutierrez said.

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said Thursday that Republicans in Congress are resentful of Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Mike Lee's (R-UT) fundraising for an organization running ads against incumbents in the party.

Asked in an interview with with radio station KFYI's Mike Broomhead whether he considers Cruz and Lee part of the Republican "team," McCain said his colleagues are not happy about attacks coming from an outside organization with the tea party senators' support.
